Check Out This Whiz Kid: Giovanni Galvano
This Carroll Gardens native loves Brooklyn!

Giovanni Galvano, 8, is trilingual. He is in the French Dual-Language program
at and speaks Italian at home with his father Massimo, a native of Rome. Giovanni’s favorite subjects in school are math and music.
"," said Giovanni of his music teacher. "He inspired me to take piano lessons and shows us the world through music. He teaches kids that anything is possible, and I believe him.
Giovanni’s has been participating in Assemblywoman Joan Millman’s Summer Reading Challenge for four years, as well as the Brooklyn Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.
"I especially like series like Bone, Harry Potter, Sardine, Amulet, Nathan Abercrombie Accidental Zombie and Percy Jackson," said Giovanni. "This summer I will for sure read 39 Clues, Bunnicula and some Lemony Snicket. I like solving mysteries and stories about friendship and magic. Books are like a passport, where you can travel anywhere in your imagination and always discover new things."
Giovanni has spent every other Monday for the past five years seeing more than 100 classic children’s films with his mom, Teri Cunningham, who is a co-founder of the popular film series . His mom now creates Poppins Perks, helping families save money on cool activities while directly supporting classroom projects in NYC public schools.
Giovanni is truly a Brooklyn boy. He loves adventures to Coney Island, picnics in Prospect Park, tossing rocks in the East River in DUMBO or Valentino Pier and especially playing soccer with pals at the Red Hook ball fields.

"A perfect day would be walking across the Brooklyn Bridge for dumplings in Chinatown, slowly wandering back to the neighborhood to find a few treasures at Book Court and then head over to have a delicious root beer float and share some laughs at ," said Giovanni's mom.
