Cobble Hill Couple Vies for Best Small, Cool Apartment

Matthew Townsend and Justin Vandeursen have maximized their 590-square-foot living space with cool neutrals and zero clutter. But can they win?

Making the most of small spaces is no little feat, especially when you live in New York City. And one Cobble Hill couple is being lauded online for decorating their lilliputian pad with particular excellence.

Matthew Townsend and Justin Vandeursen, who live in a 590-square-foot flat in South Brooklyn, are semifinalists for the "Best Small, Cool Apartment" contest on apartmenttherapy.com, according to News12.

In a short video available at the link, Townsend and Vandeursen provide a tour of their tiny 99-year-old home, which they've turned into an oasis of pastels, neutrals and pristine white walls that make the living quarters appear larger than it is.

It also helps to purge unnecessary belongings.

"If you get something you need to give up something, that's sort of the rule," says Vandeursen in the video, providing tips on minimizing clutter.

If you think they deserve to take the prize, there is still time to vote in the contest. The winner will be announced June 5.
