Cod Sandwich with Housemade Tartar Sauce from Watty & Meg

This sandwich's ingredients sang a pretty melody.

I'm a big believer in menu specials. We all know what that means: fresh ingredients, fresh thinking, etc. etc. And so, on my first visit to on Court Street, I skipped what are surely tride and true dishes and went with one of the two cod specials.

The pan seared cod filet on focaccia was served with an unctuous housemade tartar sauce that really made the sandwich stand out. It was mayo-y, sure, but it was also super tangy and flavored with pimento. The cod, always a delicious and flavorful white fish, nearly popped with flavor under the weight of the sauce. But it was never overpowered.

There was also red onion on the sandwich, which is a flavor I often feel too strong for a sandwich - especially a fish sandwich. But here, it worked. The tangy tartar was so bold, the onion took the backseat.

A side salad of lettuce and radicchio came on the side, and provided a welcome crunchy bitterness between bites.
