Five Things to Do This Week, April 1 to 5

Monday

The General Admission Giveaway for The Great GoogaMooga (May 18-19) will begin today at noon and remain open through midnight on Wednesday. Visit googamooga.com to register for a pair of tickets for either day. Tickets will be awarded at random and recipients notified via e-mail by April 10. Good luck!

Tuesday

Come to Littlefield Art & Performance Space for . This monthly competition is hosted by a self-proclaimed “Rodney Dangerfield impersonator” and his alleged daughter (Fred and Jo Firestone). The first 18 individuals/duos to sign-up at the door will have a chance to participate in competitive spontaneous pun-making. Great big kitchen appliance mystery prizes are awarded to the top two competitors. Warning for the faint of heart: the ’Dome is a spectator sport – decide to attend at your own risk!

Wednesday

Don’t miss the at Roulette. The series, which starts April 1, will also feature Sylvie Courvoisier Mark Feldman Quartet, Stuart Popejoy, Ches Smith and more. The series will conclude on April 5 and on April 6 there will be a  special performance from the legendary Yusef Lateef. Tickets are $15 April 1 to 5 for both sets, tickets for April 6 are $30 at the door, $25 online pre-sale.

Thursday

Get dancing and Try a beginner Capoeira Class at Trilok Fusion Center for Arts & Education. Capoeira is an African-Brazilian art form that combines dance, martial arts, music and acrobatics. Africans in Brazil created Capoeira over 400 years ago as a way to defend themselves and maintain their culture in the face of the harsh and oppressive conditions of slavery. 

Capoeira is a great way to get in shape, meet new people, experience culture and build community! You do not need any prior knowledge or experience to start - classes are beginner level.

Friday

Stop by the Brooklyn Museum for Special Exhibit: John Singer Sargent Watercolors. This landmark exhibition provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to see Sargent's stunning watercolors from the collections of both the MFA, Boston, and the Brooklyn Museum. A special section of the show will explore new discoveries about the artist's technique made during exhaustive studies conducted by conservators at the two museums.
