New Haven Marks 378th Birthday With Art Installation And More

Mayor Harp will host a special City Hall birthday celebration today, April 27 to celebrate the 378th anniversary of the city's founding.

New Haven, CT – Mayor Toni N. Harp will preside over a special City Hall birthday celebration today, April 27 to commemorate the 378th anniversary of the city’s founding. To put this in perspective, New Haven was already 138 years old when the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Performers, dignitaries, and special guests will participate in a program to include live music and special recognition of four unique New Haven features: ACES/ECA, the SCOTUS Amistad decision, Dr. Julia McNamara, President of Albertus Magnus College, and Dr. Mary Papazian, President of Southern Connecticut State University.

Tomorrow’s festivities are scheduled to begin on Floor Two of City Hall – at 165 Church Street – at 4:00 p.m.

Following the special recognition ceremony, three commemorative art installations will be unveiled, including special benches fashioned from the remnants of the New Haven Green’s famous ‘Lincoln’ tree, recently knocked down by a powerful storm.
