PICS: Suspect in Near-Fatal Gowanus Houses Shooting on Memorial Day
An 18-year-old Brooklyn kid barely survived being shot in the head that day, according to the NYPD.
BOERUM HILL, BROOKLYN — Local detectives believe the young man pictured above may have carried out the May 30 shooting of an 18-year-old male at Boerum Hill's Gowanus Houses, police said.
At about 6 p.m. on that day, the teenager was shot in the head at 178 Bond St., outside of the Gowanus Houses, police said.
The victim was rushed to Methodist Hospital in critical but stable condition, according to the NYPD. A department spokeswoman did not have an update on the victim's condition as of Friday.

A Gowanus Houses resident told told the Daily News at the time that she heard at least five gunshots.
"It sounded like firecrackers," the witness told the paper. "I peeped out the window and I saw the young man laying on the floor. He was moving, he was lying on his elbows."

The shooting was one of five over Memorial Day weekend, one of which was fatal.
Detectives described the suspect in the Gowanus Houses shooting as a black man between 18 and 21 years old, standing about 5-feet-9-inches and weighing approximately 160 pounds.
He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt.

This alleged shooting took place in the NYPD's 76th Precinct, which covers parts of Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens and Red Hook.
According to official police statistics, through June 12, major crimes in the 76th were collectively down about 19 percent compared to the same time period last year.
A total of five reported shooting incidents in the precinct had left seven victims through June 12, compared to seven shootings and nine victims during the same period last year.
Two murders were reported through June 12, compared to one last year.
