Versa Vanishes From Street Corner

A 2011 Nissan Versa worth $17,000 was taken from Smith Street and 1st place on Friday, May 11 at some time between 4:00 p.m. and 9 p.m. The 65-year-old owner reported that her husband had parked the grey, four-door vehicle on the corner and when they returned the auto was missing, cops said.

Mischief Makers Bust Up Mercedes

A white 2012 Mercedes-Benz was the target of vandalism last week, according to police. After parking the car on Saturday, May 12 at 11:00 p.m. along Court Street between Huntington and Nelson Streets, the owner, 35, returned to his vehicle at 7:00 a.m. the following morning to find that a block of concrete had been thrown through the back window of his four-door sedan. There are no identified suspects at this time, police said.

Bicycle Thief Hits Apartment Building Hallway

A $600 bike was stolen from an apartment building on Warren Street between Hicks and Columbia Streets, cops said. The 57-year-old owner told police that at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, she left her Dahon bicycle in the hallway of the third floor in her building, which contains multiple dwellings. At some point between then and 4:00 p.m. and unknown person removed it. There were no witnesses, cops said.

Bike Seat Snatched

A bicycle chained and locked on the Northeast corner of Union and Columbia Streets had its bike seat and seat pole ripped from the body, police said. The 41-year-old owner told police that he left his Roadmaster on Monday, May 7 at 9:00 p.m. only to return to it at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8 and find the hardware removed. The bike seat and pole are valued at $200, according to police.

Another Assault in Front of Schoolyard

On Tuesday, May 8, some time between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. a 14-year-old standing outside of the school at  was punched in the mouth with a closed fist and suffered a small cut to his upper and lower lip, cops said. A 16-year-old male was subsequently arrested by 76 Precinct Youth Officers and charged with assault with attempt to cause physical injury.

Graffiti Strikes Two More Sites in Neighborhood

  • Two more areas were struck by graffiti tags in recent weeks. The first report occurred at 230 Huntington Street, cops said. There, owners discovered that at some point between 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 through Tuesday, May 8 at 5:00 a.m. an oft-targeted wall had been marred with “WA” in spray-painted in red and gold, and the word “nature” spray-painted in black.
  • The second report of graffiti occurred on the North side of the on Court Street between Dean and Pacific Streets. At some point between Friday, May 4 at 12:00 a.m. and Thursday, May 10 at 12:00 p.m., unknown individuals used black spray paint to write a phrase on the building that is unprintable here.

Police Blow Up Pot Smoker’s Spot

A 30-year-old man was arrested for smoking pot in public view on the corner of Smith Street and Baltic Street on Saturday, May 12. Cops arrested the male at 1:15 a.m. and charged him with criminal possession of marijuana.
