The J. Crew Rumor is Just a Rumor

The rumor was everywhere yesterday.

But if you were one of the many picturing yourself browsing the racks at a J. Crew in the neighborhood, sorry.

And if you were dreaming of J. Crew sale racks only blocks from your home, keep on dreaming.

Blogs were abuzz Monday with rumors of preppy clothes moving into the former Beastly Bites store on Court Street, near Atlantic Avenue.

"We hear on the street that J. Crew is the tenant playing with the space," wrote Brownstoner's "masked correspondent," a commercial broker. "Hope they sign."

Racked called the rumor a "bombshell" of an idea.

"Lord knows Cobble Hill denizens certainly wear enough J. Crew," wrote blogger Izzy Grinspan.

But apparently, all this blogosphere blathering was for naught.

"Unfortunately," said Heather Lynch McAuliffe, Vice-President of Public Relations at J. Crew, "It was a rumor."
