What's Popping, Carroll Gardens?
A handful of pop-up stores and limited-engagement shopping events are appearing in Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, and Gowanus for the holidays.
Feeling merry and bright? The holiday season has officially sprung and with it a handful of pop-up stores and limited engagement shopping events are appearing around the neighborhood.Â
From a temporary reopening of the West Village's accalaimed Fassbinder by Sonja Fries at 233 Smith Street to today's one-day-only Ms. Millholland sale taking place on the parlor floor of a Carroll Gardens brownstone to the upcoming Gowanus Nite Market, a recurring evening shopping environment featuring unique artisans which will launch Saturday, Dec. 8 at Film Biz Recycling—the area is bursting with several new opportunities to get gifts.
Which is a good thing since the F/G line is not running. Who needs Manhattan, anyway?

"As the winter season approaches and outdoor markets become scarce, many vendors continue to seek out cool places to sell their product," said Gowanus Nite Market coordinator Raphael Niles. "With our love for industrial Brooklyn and unique spaces, we were fortunate to discover and be able to partner with Film Biz Recycling—a true gem in Brooklyn—to attempt re-inventing the whole vendor market experience. Having our market at night only enhances the entire experience."
Vendors for the Gowanus Nite Market were chosen using the following criteria: the products are all locally handmade, many from creatively recycled materials, and "with a raw, one of a kind (bordering bizarre) product."

Artist Tiffany Burnette create's Design Hype's NYC Metro Cuffs, which use MTA maps as the inspiration for cuff bracelets, and will be presenting at the market. She is as excited to sell as she is to explore other vendors' wares.Â
"I am especially fond of handmade ceramics so I will stop by and see Atsushi Iwai," she said. "Also Brooklyn Bitch Bakery looks awesome!"
Meanwhile, Bare Bone Supply, another Gowanus Nite Market vendor, is a partnershiop between Dacia Pierson and NIk Pence, who create Classic Guitar Kits that are a "build- and customize- it yourself project" for ambitious DIY music lovers.
"We provide everything in the kit to make a fully functioning and well playing instrument, and the maker gets to determine every other detail of the piece," said Pierson. "The body can be painted, headstock cut how you'd like it, and all parts can be easily swapped out."Â
Over on Smith Street, Fassbinder's holiday pop-up has been open since mid-November and is offering refined baubles, bracelets and other inspired bling like the golden origami crane charm necklace [pictured in the gallery] created by Max Steiner.
And in an unknown brownstone located somewhere in Carroll Gardens, the Ms. Milholland sale will be selling an array of home goods, children's wares, and gift items for "him" and "her" today to those willing to e-mail them for the secret address.
But considering it's just around the corner, the adventure seems worth it if it could yield the perfect present.
