The man was left with serious injuries and possible brain damage after the violent assault, according to authorities. Police haven't arrested anyone and are still searching for the person responsible. The New York Daily News first reported on the assault.

Before the attack, the man was waiting on 25th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues on Friday at about 10:45 p.m., police said. The man was sitting a their car, which was double-parked, while his girlfriend brought their groceries inside. His girlfriend, age 76, told police that before she entered the housing complex, she saw the man get out of the car and stand by the front of the vehicle to wait for her. When the woman returned about 10 minutes later, she saw her boyfriend sitting in the driver's seat with bruises on his face and bleeding from his cheek and mouth, an NYPD spokesman said. His injuries were so severe that he wasn't able to speak to his girlfriend to tell her what happened, authorities said.
