Chelsea Restaurant Awarded New Michelin Star In 2023
A new, intimate space serving up a contemporary take on Korean fare was listed among the most recent Michelin awardees. Here's what to know:
CHELSEA, NY - Calling all Chelsea-area foodies! Michelin, the world's most coveted restaurant guide, just doled out 12 new stars to New York City eateries on Tuesday, and one Flatiron spot is among the lot.
bōm, a contemporary take on Korean fare inside an intimate space at 17 W. 19th St., was listed among the awardees, alongside the likes of Jōji, a Japanese and sushi spot in Midtown, Shmoné, an Israeli food spot in the West Village and Sushi Ichimura, a Japanese joint in Tribeca.
17-seat bōm, which opened earlier this year, is helmed by chef Brian Kim, the brains behind another modern Korean spot, Oiji Mi, which also won its first star just a few months after opening.

“This team has it down to every last detail, with elegant service and well-executed dishes,” the guide reads. “Of course, there is premium beef ranging from tenderloin and Wagyu short rib to dry-aged ribeye, but there is so much more than just meat here.”
The restaurant’s $325 tasting menu features small plate appetizers emphasizing seafood and vegetable textures; a “unique, multiple-course section” made up of meats of varied aging methods and periods; an authentic Korean hansang charim (that is, a “well-prepared table of food” with rice, banchan and soup) and a finale of desserts crafted by executive pastry che Adriana Adorno, also of Oiji Mi fame.

“The dishes display a tight narration, and the presentations are stunning,” the guide continues. “Expect flawless ingredients, as in the gamtae cradling sweet bluefin tuna with delicate cubes of Hudson Valley foie gras. Then, one bite of baesuk with Baerii caviar, jujube and tofu delivers a panoply of flavors. Two perfectly steamed slices of abalone resting over Bhutanese red rice is tender, rich and tangy.”
