Citi Bike Grabbed At Presumed Gunpoint In Chelsea: NYPD
The assailant threatened to kill the cyclist with a hidden weapon before fleeing the area on the stolen Citi Bike, police said.

CHELSEA, NY - A cyclist was robbed at presumed gunpoint over a Citi Bike last month, authorities said.
The 31-year-old cyclist was approached about 4:24 p.m. on Aug. 15 near the southwest corner of 8 Avenue and 17 Street by an assailant who placed his hand inside a fanny pack, simulating a firearm, police said.
The supposed gunman threatened to take the victim’s life before fleeing the area on the stolen bike, police said.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, police said.
The suspect is described as a man about 25 to 30 years of age, 150 to 160 pounds and five feet nine inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a brown fanny pack across his chest, black hooded sweatshirt with white writings on the sleeves, gray pants and black sneakers.
As of Monday, New York City has 11,773 reported robberies so far in 2023, according to city data. That's down about 5.4 percent from the same time the previous year.

In the 10th precinct where the robbery took place, 101 robberies have been reported to date in 2023. That’s compared to 110 in 2022.
