CHELSEA, NY — An elderly man died six weeks after getting attacked by a teenager in Chelsea, police said on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old boy attacked Brad Boonshaft, 71, at 288 Eighth Ave., between West 24th and 25th streets, about 3:54 p.m. on Sept. 15, police said.

Boonshaft and the teen got in an argument that escalated into the boy repeatedly punching the older man in the face until he lost consciousness, police told the New York Daily News.

Boonshaft suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead six weeks later on Saturday, police said.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested after the attack, which has now been deemed a homicide, police said.

The teenager has been charged with assault for injuring a person 65-years-old or older, police said.

His charges could be upgraded at his next court appearance given the fact that Boonshaft died.

The attack occurred just three blocks away from the street where celebrity vocal coach Barbara Maier Gustern, 87, was shoved to her death in March.

Suspect Lauren Pazienza, 26, turned herself in after a days-long search and now faces manslaughter and assault charges in Manhattan's criminal court, records show.
