Service was briefly halted while rescuers tried to get to the man.

CHELSEA, NY — L train service was briefly halted between Manhattan and Brooklyn on Tuesday evening after a man who appeared to be drunk stumbled onto the subway tracks, a witness told Patch.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said that there was no L train service between the Eighth Avenue station in Manhattan and the Bedford Avenue station in Brooklyn.

L train service was suspended between Manhattan and Brooklyn for about 20 minutes before it was back up and running, the MTA said.

A witness told Patch that he saw someone fall onto the tracks at the Eighth Avenue station in Manhattan. The witness, who asked not to be named, said he saw the man fall accidentally onto the tracks as he was getting off the train. The witness said the man appeared to be drunk when he stumbled onto the tracks.

"He [exited] the last door of the train and fell to the side, down and over," the witness said.

The witness added that emergency responders took the man out of the station with a brace around his neck. The NYPD did not immediately have information on the situation.
