Man Charged In Union Square Sex Assault, Robbery: NYPD

UNION SQUARE, NY - A man who reportedly robbed and sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman on a Union Square subway station platform Sunday has been charged, police said.

Joel Ramirez, 26, of Bushwick, was arrested about 10:28 p.m. Monday and charged with robbery, sex abuse, assault and related charges, police said.

Ramirez reportedly grabbed the victim’s breast on the northbound N train platform inside the subway station about 3:25 a.m. before sticking his hand down her pants and grabbing “her intimate parts,” police said.

He then forced the victim to the ground, slammed her head to the ground and continued the assault.

It was only after a good Samaritan intervened that the subject fled with the victim’s cell phone. The victim was later treated at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center.

The NYPD Special Victims Unit applauded two police officers Tuesday morning for making the arrest.
