MMA Fighter Stabbed In The Back At Chelsea Gym

Bystanders at the gym reportedly held down the attacker until police arrived Saturday.

CHELSEA, NY — A mixed martial arts fighter was stabbed in the back repeatedly at a Chelsea gym Saturday, and another fighter was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the attack, according to the New York Police Department.

Caleb Perry, 23, was arrested within an hour of the stabbing at Radical Mixed Martial Arts at 235 West 29th Street, said NYPD Detective Austin Glickman.

"A 24-year-old male was stabbed in the back," said Glickman. "He was transported to Bellevue in stable condition."

The attack occurred at 11:50 p.m., and Perry, a former member of the gym, was arrested at 12:03 p.m., according to police. Bystanders at the gym detained Perry until police arrived.

Perry was a former member of the gym, who had his membership revoked before he returned Saturday, demanding to speak to the gym's management, the New York Post reported.

Perry faces charges of attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the second degree, and two counts of burglary in the second degree, Glickman added.
