NBA Star Matt Barnes Gets Community Service For Chelsea Bar Brawl

Matt Barnes took a plea deal and was sentenced to ten days of community service following a December brawl at a Chelsea nightclub.

CHELSEA, NY — NBA star Matt Barnes will get just ten days of community service for his role in a brawl at a Chelsea nightclub, prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Barnes agreed to a plea deal offered by prosecutors and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a violation, in exchange for ten days of community service. In December, Barnes was accused starting a fight with a woman and then punching her boyfriend when he came to her aid at Avenue, a celeb-friendly nightclub in Chelsea. He turned himself into police in February after he was charged with assault and obstruction of breathing. Barnes had allegedly choked a woman and then punched her boyfriend, authorities said. Barnes put both of his hands around the woman's neck and squeezed before wrestling her boyfriend to the ground and punching him twice in the face, according to the original criminal complaint filed against Barnes.
