CHELSEA, NY — Police arrested a turnstile jumper on Wednesday night, and found the man carrying a gun, pills and cash, police said in a statement on Tuesday.

The NYPD said in a statement that officers with a transit task force stopped the man, Tyleek Mcgee, when they saw him approach the subway platform at 23rd Street and Eight Avenue station by entering through the emergency exit gate. Police found a "large amount of pills and cash" and a gun on Mcgee, according to the NYPD. He was charged with multiple crimes, including weapons charges, drug charges, and theft of service. Patch was not immediately able to contact Mcgee's lawyer on Thursday.

Manhattan prosecutor Cy Vance announced last month that thousands of low-level crimes, like turnstile jumping, would no longer be criminally prosecuted in most cases. Prosecutors may still pursue criminal charges for low-level offenses for people who they think "pose a demonstrated threat to public safety," Vance's office said in a statement.
