CHELSEA, NY - Sahadi’s, a Brooklyn Heights-based Middle Eastern grocer, is slated to return to Manhattan via Chelsea’s Market 57 after 75 years, its owners said Monday.

The new eatery inside the Pier 57 food hall - located across from Little Island in Hudson River Park - is set to open Nov. 27 with seated dining and bar service at the food hall.

The 127-year-old family business is expected to bring a variety of Mediterranean- and Middle Eastern-inspired dishes to Market 57, including Toshka (grilled cheese-stuffed Lebanese flatbread), hot Saj wraps filled with shawarma or moussaka and rice bowls. A curated rotating list of beers and fine wines from traditionally underrepresented regions like Lebanon, Morocco, Greece, and Sicily will also be available.

“As long as I can remember, customers have been asking, ‘When are you coming to Manhattan?’ and I’m thrilled to be able to have an answer for them now,” Christine Sahadi Whelan, Sahadi’s fourth-generation co-owner, said in a statement. “Market 57 provided us with the perfect opportunity to join the rich array of cultures, traditions, and culinary talents at the food hall. We’ll be launching a few new food items, as well as bringing our legendary hummus, classic meze, baklava, and more.”

Sahadi’s first iteration opened on Washington Street in “Little Syria,” now Battery Park City, in 1895, according to a news release from the brand. The storefront relocated to Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn Heights in 1948 where it has remained for decades, all the while growing manufacturing and processing facilities in various neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. The family business has since been dubbed a James Beard America’s Classic and New York State Historic Business.

In 2019, Sahadi’s opened a restaurant and grocery store in Industry City and, in 2023, the family opened Sahadi Spirits in Sunset Park.

Sahadi’s new Chelsea location will join a slate of celebrated women- and BIPOC-owned eateries at Market 57, from Ammi, Bessou and Bird & Branch to Nom Wah, Harlem Hops, The Galley by Lobster Place and The Good Batch. A full list of Market 57 spots can be found here.

Sahadi’s initial hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
