CHELSEA, NY - Chelsea-dwellers will have to go elsewhere to find Halloween costumes this year as Spirit Halloween’s anticipated Avenue of the Americas store will not be opening after all.

The former Bed, Bath and Beyond flagship store at 620 6th Avenue, which closed earlier this year, was slated to serve as a seasonal outpost for the spooky seasonal shop. However, a spokesperson for Spirit Halloween confirmed to Patch on Monday that the store will no longer open.

The retailer had negotiated for 10,000 square feet of the store to be subleased for 60 days, according to the Commercial Observer. The deal eventually fell through, but not before Spirit Halloween posted about the new location on social media, the outlet said.

A request for comment from the site's landlord, RXR Realty, was not immediately returned.

The Chelsea outpost was set to open this month, according to the company's store locator page.

Spirit Halloween will be taking over several other empty storefronts around New York: the site of former Walgreens (604 6th Ave.), Face Values and Beyond (2431 Broadway) and Rite Aid (1535 2nd Ave.) stores will all undergo a Spirit-fueled transformation this season.
