Suspected Chelsea Shooter Turns Himself In, Police Say

The man that police believe shot and wounded four men in Chelsea last month has turned himself in, according to authorities.

CHELSEA, NY — The man suspected of shooting and injuring four people in Chelsea last month turned himself into police on Thursday, authorities said.

Police have been searching for Ricardo Daniell since May 27, when he allegedly shot and wounded four men on a Chelsea street corner before fleeing on his bicycle. Daniell, 31, turned himself into police Thursday and charges against him are pending, authorities said. Police arrested his companion Paola Betances, 22, in May and charged her with three non-violent drug crimes.

Four men were shot early on the morning of May 22 in Chelsea before the cyclist fled on his bike, authorities said. The men, none of whom were in critical condition after the shooting, were standing on 14th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues when they were hit, NYPD said in a statement. Officers arrived there at about 3:25 and found one man with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition after the shooting. Two other men went to the hospital on their own, and the fourth man suffered a graze wound and refused medical treatment.
