Thrift Your Heart out Wednesday and Save the Environment

New York City's National Thrift Store Day will offer sales and free snacks at Chelsea's Housing Works.

If you've been putting off fall shopping, the thrift store collective of New York has your back. This Wednesday, New York City celebrates National Thrift Store Day by encouraging New Yorkers to shop at several secondhand stores across the five boroughs.

"Thrift shops and reuse stores not only save shoppers money—they also reduce waste, conserve resources, and help create 'green' jobs," the city's event description says. "Plus buying used goods from nonprofit thrift stores supports those organizations' important social-service missions."

The day is organized by donateNYC and NYC Center for Materials Reuse (CMR) and funded by the city's Department of Sanitation. Here are all the thrift stores participating:

The event is part of donateNYC's network that it has facilitated with nonprofits and organizations to reuse clothes and other materials across the city.

There will be a special sale, as well as free snacks and drinks, at Housing Works in Chelsea from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday evening to celebrate the gems you found.
