Driver Arrested After Truck Kills Man In Chelsea, Police Say

The man was struck as he crossed an intersection at Seventh Avenue and W 25th Street, police said.

Update, 11:15 a.m.: Police have arrested the driver of the tractor trailer that hit and killed a 73-year-old man on Tuesday morning, the NYPD said in a statement.

Driver Sydney Jones, 60, was charged with an aggravated unlicensed driving charge, police said. Patch was not immediately able to contact an attorney for Jones on Tuesday morning.

CHELSEA, NY — A 73-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning when he was struck by a tractor trailer as he crossed a Chelsea intersection, according to police.

The man was trying to cross at the intersection near Seventh Avenue and W 25th Street when he was hit by the trailer, according to the NYPD's initial investigation. Police responded to a 911 call reporting the collision at about 5:45 a.m. and found the man with head trauma, authorities said. The man was rushed to Bellevue hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police did not immediately identify the man on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the trailer remained at the scene after the collision, according to police. The driver was not immediately arrested while police continue to investigate the crash, the NYPD said in a statement.
