VIDEO: Chelsea Dirt Bike Robbers Snatch Watch From Man On Sidewalk

Video shows three men jumping off bikes to snatch a man's watch along West 23rd Street. The man tries to fight them off, but isn't able to.

CHELSEA, NY — Three men hopped off dirt bikes and a moped and successfully snatched a man's watch in the middle of the day in Chelsea, police said and video shows.

Police released footage shortly after the brazen robbery attempt, which happened in front of 208 W. 23rd St (near Seventh Avenue) about 1 p.m. on Friday, police said.

The 64-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk along West 23rd Street, when the three men rode onto the sidewalk, police said.

Video shows the passenger on the dirt bike jumping off and forcibly grabbing a Rolex watch off the man's wrist, while pushing him to the ground. The man did his best to hang onto the watch, but wasn't able to stop the robber from taking it, video shows.

The three men on bikes then all fled east on West 23rd Street, and then south on Seventh Avenue, police said.

The 64-year-old was left with cuts to his right arm and hand, but refused medical attention, police said.

The stolen Rolex is valued at $12,000.

The three men on bikes were all wearing black face masks, dark hooded sweatshirts, and dark pants. The dirt bike was green and white, while the moped was maroon, police said.

The Chelsea robbery came one day before a woman fought off two men on a moped trying to snatch her necklace in broad daylight Saturday on the Upper East Side. The incidents are not connected.
