Widow Testifies In Domonic Whilby's Murder Trial

The widow of an MTA bus driver killed three years ago testified on Monday in Dominic Whilby's murder trial

CHELSEA, NY — The widow of an MTA bus driver killed 3 years ago in Chelsea testified during his alleged killer's trial on Monday.

Nancy Rodriguez spoke about her husband William Pena's last day alive, and how she knew something was wrong when he didn't check in with her that morning, according to the New York Daily News.

"I had a gut feeling something happened. I noticed on that day, because William would always text in the morning to find out how we were doing," Rodriguez said, according to the New York Daily News. "That day we had no calls or no text messages from him so I immediately started texting him and some of his coworkers to see if he was okay and I was asking, 'Have you seen William?'"

Rodriguez took the stand at Dominic Whilby's murder trial. Whilby, the nephew of model Tyson Beckford, was charged with murder after prosecutors say he drunkenly stole a commercial truck in the Meatpacking District and crashed into Pena as he drove along his bus route. The fatal crash, which happened after 5 a.m. on Feb. 12, 2014, occurred while Whilby was drunk and high, according to his attorneys.

Whilby's trial continues on Tuesday.
