Window Washer Plunges To Death From Flatiron Building After Harness Breaks, Police Say

A 56-year-old window washer died on Monday after his harness broke near Madison Square Park.

FLATIRON, NY — A window washer plummeted to his death on Monday morning when his harness broke on the 12th floor of a Flatiron high-rise, police said.

The 56-year-old man was washing the windows of 60 Madison Ave., a 13-story office building at East 27th Street, when his harness "gave way," police said. He fell to a sixth floor landing in the interior courtyard, according to police.

The man was pronounced dead at Bellevue hospital. Police did not immediately release his identity.
