COMMACK, NY — George Lutz recently retired from his construction work, but he remains active in helping others.

Lutz, a Commack resident, has gotten involved in helping food-insecure Long Islanders; residents in need of proper housing; and sharing his aviation knowledge with others.

Lutz volunteers at Long Island Cares's Hauppauge warehouse, works with Habitat for Humanity, and shares his knowhow at the American Airpower Museum. He volunteers at each place once a week, typically, he said.

"I have volunteered at a number of businesses since I retired and believe God would want me to use my talents to help others," Lutz told Patch.

He volunteers at Long Island Cares because he knows there is food insecurity on Long Island and said getting food to families in need is "important."

He always takes the time to show his appreciation and support for Long Island Cares and the work we do. He is a big factor in helping us achieve our mission.”

Habitat for Humanity's vision is for "a world where everyone has a decent place to live."

Lutz said he believes in Habitat for Humanity's mission and he feels he can contribute to assisting with that.
