Emily's parents, Michele and Nick, her sister, Grace, and her brother, Kevin, are "completely devastated and heartbroken, as are her friends and family," Pollack wrote.

"Emily was a powerful force of kindness, beauty, and strength. Her laughter was contagious, her smile was infectious and her heart was always so welcoming."

The Pollack family is raising funds to help the Koutsoliontos family with this "unexpected and unimaginable financial hardship," Linda wrote.

Funds will be used to offset funeral and burial expenses, including bringing Emily back home to New York.

The fundraiser has raised $16K of the $20K goal as of Tuesday afternoon.

"Thank you for any donation, large or small," Linda said. "We know the love Emily shared so freely will continue to be felt by all of us. Please keep the Koutsoliontos family in your prayers and Emily's beautiful spirit alive in your thoughts and hearts."
