Commack School Budget Preview For 2023-24

See what's on the ballot before you head to the polls on Tuesday.

COMMACK, NY — Commack residents are set to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 16.

The vote is scheduled at Commack Middle School or Commack High School, depending on where the voter lives, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Commack School District's proposed spending plan for the 2023-24 school year is $222,110,181. That's a 3.48 percent increase from the current budget. The tax levy is $152,660,104, or a 1.99 percent increase from last year's.

This year, Commack residents will elect two candidates for two positions on the Board of Education, each for a three-year term. Incumbents William Hender and Susan J. Hermer are seeking reelection. No one is challenging them.

The proposed budget includes all existing academic, social-emotional, and extra-curricular programs, while keeping class sizes at current levels, the Commack Board of Education wrote.

"We are proud to be the only high school on Long Island to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Pathway curriculum," the district wrote. "This is a unique program developed
explicitly for ALL students who wish to engage in career-related learning for professions they may be interested in pursuing."

The school district plans to go green with solar energy. Construction of new pickleball courts at the high school for community and student use are set to begin this summer. New playground
equipment at the primary schools is also on tap for the fall.
