Dump Truck Overturns In 7-Vehicle Suffolk Crash

A woman was injured in the pileup, police say.

COMMACK, NY — A dump truck overturned when attempting to avoid a vehicle in Commack on Tuesday afternoon, leading to a seven-vehicle crash, Suffolk police said.

A dump truck was traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when it attempted to avoid a vehicle that entered its lane, causing the dump truck to overturn at 12:30 p.m., police said.

The truck sideswiped an oncoming vehicle in the westbound lane and struck a U-turn sign in the median, police said. The sign subsequently struck two vehicles while debris from the median struck two more vehicles. The truck struck another vehicle.

A woman who was struck by the truck was brought to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said. Everyone else declined medical attention, police said.
