Lidl To Celebrate Commack Grand Opening

The grand opening is next week. The first 100 customers in line before the ribbon cutting will be presented with a special gift card.

COMMACK, NY — Lidl is set to host the grand opening of its Commack supermarket on Wednesday, Lidl U.S. announced.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 7:40 a.m. Wednesday. Customers will be able to take advantage of get-them-while-you-can grand opening special offers at the new store. The first 100 customers in line before the ribbon cutting will be presented with a gift card ranging from $5 to $100 each. Shoppers can enter to win a $500 Lidl gift card, sample Lidl’s assortment and take advantage of special giveaways, according to the franchise.

The store is at 210 E. Jericho Turnpike and will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Lidl invested more than $7 million in the site.

“On behalf of the Town of Smithtown, I am overjoyed to formally welcome our new neighbor, Lidl, to Commack on Jericho Turnpike,” Town of Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim stated. "Throughout the pandemic, Lidl has opened over 15 stores on Long Island to serve residents, providing quality, affordable food at low, competitive prices. This latest store is a much-needed and promising addition to the community, and I am grateful that Lidl has chosen Smithtown to call home."

More than 50 jobs were created with the opening of Lidl in Commack. Starting pay for all associates is $17.50 per hour, which includes comprehensive benefits. Lidl offers healthcare for all full-and-part-time positions, regardless of hours worked per week.

Lidl has partnered with Long Island Cares to provide food to people in need in the community. Throughout the entire grand opening weekend, Wednesday through Sunday, Lidl will donate $1 to the food bank for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets Lidl Commack as their home store.

"Lidl is committed to serving Long Island through their great prices, fresh foods, and by giving back to the community,” Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy said. “They provide top pay and benefits for all employees while bringing local jobs. I am happy to see them open their doors in Commack."

Lidl offers specialty items ranging from hard-to-find cheeses to authentic specialty sauces, cured meats, and more.

The store also offers an ever-changing selection of food and non-food specials brought in each Wednesday for a limited time. The rotating non-food selection will include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys, outdoor furniture, and more.

The bakery offers breads, pastries and other items. Flowers can also be purchased at the supermarket.

"I am excited to officially welcome Lidl to Commack,” Suffolk County Legislator Manuel Esteban said. “Lidl has a proven track record on Long Island by providing high-quality fresh grocery at the most affordable prices.”
