Mortar-Style Firework Explosion Leaves Suffolk Man Seriously Burned

Police are investigating after a man was seriously injured by a mortar-style firework in Suffolk County.

COMMACK, NY — Police are investigating after a man was seriously injured by a mortar-style firework in Commack.

A 67-year-old Commack man was at a block party around 10 p.m. Saturday on Diellen Court when the firework exploded, striking him in the face, police said.

The man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious burns and cuts to his face and head, police said. He is expected to survive.
