Pedestrian Killed In Suffolk Crash: Police

The man was walking when he was struck by car, police say.

COMMACK, NY — A pedestrian was killed in a crash in Commack on Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.

Julio Monteiro, 63, of Valley Stream, was walking southbound on Veterans Memorial Highway, east of Jericho Turnpike, when he was struck by a westbound 2015 Kia Soul, at 10:39 p.m., police said.

Monteiro was pronounced dead at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown.

The driver of the Kia, a 41-year-old East Northport woman, was not injured, police said.

The Kia was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
