Question of the Day: What Are Your Thoughts on the Property Tax Cap?

State legislature approved a tax cap that limits tax raises to 2 percent from year to year.

New York State Senate approved a cap on property taxes on Friday night which limits any increase to 2 percent, or the inflation rate, whichever is lower. The law will take effect in the 2012 fiscal year for local government, and the 2012-2013 school year for the Commack School District.

Earlier this month, PTA Council President Jacki Fleischhacker addressed to Gov. Cuomo in opposition of the tax cap, arguing that it would be detrimental to the district's budget process.

Yet, many Long Islanders, including Patch commentors, have expressed their support of the cap and welcome any property tax relief.
