Police ID Teens Involved In Fatal LI Crash

A girl who was a senior at a Long Island high school was killed, and two other teens suffered serious injuries, police said.

COMMACK, NY — A teenager was killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Commack, Suffolk police said.

Isabel Carella, 17, of Smithtown, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Carella was a passenger in a car driven by Dominic Crocitto, 17, of Kings Park, police said. Crocitto was driving a 2008 Ford Mustang northbound on Indian Head Road when he swerved to avoid another vehicle and lost control, police said. The Mustang struck a 2015 Jeep Wrangler that was southbound near Carldon Road about 3:45 p.m., police said.

The four teens in the Mustang were students of Kings Park High School — one senior and three juniors — Kings Park Superintendent Timothy T. Eagen wrote in a community letter.

Carella was a senior at the high school, News 12 Long Island reported.

"We are tremendously saddened by [Wednesday's] events and will make every effort to help you and your child as needed," Eagen wrote.

The Kings Park High School has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel during difficult times, Eagen said. Several of the district's psychologists and additional mental health personnel will be available at the high school Thursday and throughout the rest of the week for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding the car crash. The school will use the Counseling Center inside the building, as well as the area outside the building next to the grass soccer field for staging and support.

"We are here and ready to support each and every student in need," Eagen said.
