Town Of Huntington Plants 200 Trees In Commack Park For Arbor Day

Local students and scouts helped plant the trees in Sunshine Acres Park.

COMMACK, NY — The saplings of 200 trees were planted in Sunshine Acres Park in Commack on Friday for Arbor Day, the Town of Huntington announced.

Supervisor Ed Smyth and Town officials were joined by Covanta, local students and scouts.

An American Linden Tree donated by Covanta was planted, as well as 200 additional bare root saplings consisting of 25 each of Ninebark, Black Chokeberry, Virginia Rose, Winged Sumac, Witch Hazel, Black Oak, and Red Oak donated anonymously to the Town of Huntington to commemorate Arbor Day.

The Huntington Town Board accepted the donations at their April Town Board meeting.

Students from Commack High School and girls from a local Girl Scout Troop helped plant the trees.
