We're Thankful: Letters from the Community

This Thanksgiving, community members have submitted what they are thankful for in Commack.

Laurie Pastore, Director

During this time of year, it's always nice to reflect on the many things we are thankful for in our wonderful community of Commack.  I am thankful for all of the patrons of the Commack Public Library, some of whom who have supported their Library for over forty years.

Some of these patrons were living in this great town even before there was a library they could call their own.  With their help this Library was established in 1969 and since then our patrons have supported their Library for over forty years by checking out materials, attending programs, making suggestions and participating in its success.

I am also thankful for the support of the Board, the Friends and the staff of the Library.  Without them, the Commack Public Library would not be what it is today.  I am thankful that the community where I grew up is the place where I have enjoyed working for so many years.  The education I received, the friends I have made, and the relationships I established when I was younger right here in Commack have truly influenced me as an adult.

Even though I have since moved from Commack, I continue to consider it my "home away from home", and I am thankful to the many people, colleagues and organizations in Commack that have contributed to the success of the Library.  Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours.

Bruce Ettenberg, President

I am thankful that I live in a community with so many caring people. There are residents who have given freely of their time to help improve our community. They have spent countless hours working on quality of life issues with the Commack Community Association for the past three years. We began with 3 people who thought there might be some interest in forming an association, and have grown to a paid membership of fifty people and four businesses in just the past three years. We have worked on issues that affect the lives of our residents from the placement of a stop sign, to a major community project, the preservation of the Marion Carll Farm.

I am thankful that I have the opportunity to work with some very wonderful residents of Commack.
