9 Students Injured In Long Island School Bus Crash: Police

A bus carrying North Babylon High School's boys' winter track team crashed into a pole in a parking lot on Sunday, Suffolk police say.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A school bus carrying the North Babylon High School boys' winter track team crashed into a pole in the school's parking lot and injured several students on Sunday, according to Suffolk County police.

Police told Patch that the full-size school bus was transporting around 30 students to a track meet around 10:45 a.m. when the driver struck a pole, injuring nine students.

According to an email from the district's superintendent of schools Kenneth Graham viewed by Patch, the students were transported to local hospitals to treat "minor injuries."

Graham said the North Babylon Fire Department was called to the scene and helped evaluate students.

"We appreciate the quick response of the fire department and EMS responders, and we thank them for their assistance," Graham wrote.
