Alumni Report: Local LAX Stars Shine

Column highlights athletic accomplishments of local high school graduates

Lacrosse

• Mercy College junior attackman Mike Marzocca of North Babylon recently earned East Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. He helped the Mavericks earn their fifth straight win versus the College of Saint Rose with four goals and two assists. He also scooped up four ground balls and had one forced turnover.

• SUNY Maritime’s Charles Kuhn of North Babylon had four goals and three assists in the Privateers 22-9 victory over Mount St. Mary. The freshman more than doubled his prior output of his season point total, which was five. Kuhn scored the first three goals for Maritime and had a hand in four of his team’s next six goals. All seven of his points came before 11:25 of the second quarter.

• SUNY Maritime senior goaltender Laura Palino of North Babylon made 12 saves in the Privateers 16-9 loss to Mount St. Vincent.

Softball

C.W. Post’s Allison Dzierzynski of Deer Park had a significant presence in a double-header split against Dowling. In game 1 she went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and run scored in game 2. Dowling won the first game 6-4 and Post took the second game 5-2.

Track & Field

At the New Jersey Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday, TCNJ runners took the top-3 spots in the 3000-meter run. Among them was Jillian Manzo, a North Babylon High School graduate, who finished third with a time of 10:43.08.
