Deer Park Students Decorate Movie Theater Windows For 'Black Panther'

The students painted the windows in honor of the late Chadwick Boseman.

DEER PARK, NY — Several Deer Park students are being recognized for sharing their "super" artistic talents with the community.

Deer Park High School Art Club members recently volunteered to paint five themed windows at the Regal Deer Park movie theater at the Tanger Outlets to celebrate the premiere of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Guided by teacher Joe Mucci, the students had only three days to finish the project, arranged by Regal Deer Park Deputy General Manager Jessica Philips-Harris, a Deer Park High School graduate.

The students included: Denise Brown, Emma Burkitt, Emmerson Cadena, Oswald Green III, Aimen Khan, Alexis Lazarte, Kathy Lin, Salwa Waseem and Sara Zirpola.

The film, which premiered on Nov. 11, comes four years since the first Black Panther movie.

Following the death of King T’Challa, played by the late Chadwick Boseman, the movie follows Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje as they band together to protect Wakanda from intervening world powers.

"Black Panther" was the first film in the wildly popular Marvel franchise to feature a black main character and consists of a largely black cast, as well as having a black director, (Ryan Coogler).

Boseman, 43, passed away from colon cancer in 2020.
