Deer Park Students Set Lotfy PARP Goal

John Quincy Adams students hope to read 10,000 books during Parents As Reading Partners Month.

Students at John Quincy Adams Elementary School in Deer Park are celebrating Parents as Reading Partners Month with a variety of literary events and activities.

This year’s theme was “Put Your Heart into Reading,” was based on the character of the Tin Man from L. Frank Baum’s classic “The Wizard of Oz.”

The program kicked off with a visit from performing arts students from Deer Park High School, who performed a reading of “The Wizard of Oz.”

LuAnn Adams engaged students in an interactive program including educational stories and puppets. Students and their families also took part in Pajama Activity Night, which included a special visit from author Lee Knight.

The school set a reading goal of 10,000 books for the month, tracked by a yellow brick road winding throughout the hallways.

For some motivation, Principal Jennifer Rodriguez offered to complete a silly action that students will vote on if they meet the goal.
