Barbara Goemans, a volunteer firefighter and coordinator of the event, told Patch that the blood drive is an annual event. After recently losing her father, who received lots of blood donations, the event is personal.

"When you donate blood, you're not just helping your community. You're helping many others the same time," she said. "It's an easy, simple thing to do. It doesn't take much time."
