Stolen Car Seriously Hurts Suffolk Woman, Crashes Into Cop Car: PD

Police are searching for the driver who seriously injured a 60-year-old woman in Wyandanch.

WYANDANCH, NY — Suffolk County Police are currently searching for the driver of a stolen Mercedes who seriously injured a pedestrian and caused a police vehicle to crash into another car and overturn in Wyandanch.

At about 1:56 p.m., police attempted to pull over a black Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, that had just left a known drug location in the vicinity of Sunrise Highway and Bayview Avenue in Amityville. The Mercedes was occupied by at least two men, and had a temporary Florida license plate reading "10DEMT.".

Police later determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of New York City.

As the car fled, officers followed in pursuit. The Mercedes then struck a Subaru on County Line Road and Francine Avenue in North Amityville, police said. The Subaru driver was not injured, police said.

The Mercedes then struck a 60-year-old woman on South 18th Street in Wyandanch at about 2 p.m, police said. The driver fled the scene in the Mercedes.

A responding unmarked police vehicle with emergency lights activated, traveling northbound on
Straight Path, near Washington Avenue, was struck by an uninvolved Mazda that made a left turn in front of it at 2:05 p.m. Both vehicles overturned.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the Mazda and four officers in the unmarked vehicle were also taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
