Ghosts, Zombies, Highlight the Week Ahead in North Babylon and Deer Park

Plenty of sporting events are also scheduled for this week, including football games for both local teams.

It's nearly halfway through October, which means Halloween decorations are starting to dot the landscape, ghosts hang from trees and pumpkins are for sale at every turn.

It also means Halloween-themed events have arrived.

ZOMBIE ALERT

The Deer Park Community Center's Zombie World is open on Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There are 7,000 square feet of zombies. How many zombies can fit in 7,000 square feet? No clue, so go an find out. Report back to us.

Tickets are $15.

WILLOW FESTIVAL

Put this on your calendar for Oct. 26 from noon to 5 p.m. The Willow Pet Hotel on Deer Park Avenue is holding its Pet Awareness and Halloween Festival.

The event takes place in the parking lot and will benefit the Suffolk County SPCA and Deer Park Fire Department.

There will be face painting, best costume contests, pet food samples and discounted pet toys.

One note: We need to get confirmation on whether wearing any New York Giants related clothing is considered a "frightening costume."

MORE LONG ISLAND HAUNTINGS

A website dedicated to Long Island Halloween-themed haunted houses is live and worth checking out, if you're on the hunt for these sorts of events.

SPORTS ALERT: WATCH OUT FOR SMITHTOWN

Unlike the 0-6 Giants, sports in North Babylon and Deer Park are competitive and the teams all show up ready to play. We can't list all of it here, but if anyone looking for a specific team's schedule can visit the Section X1 website here.

Here are a few highlights: On Wednesday at 4 p.m., West Babylon visits North Babylon in varsity field hockey.

On Thursday, Smithtown becomes the enemy of the Bulldog. The boys varsity soccer team heads to Smithtown East for a 4:30 p.m. tilt, while the girls volleyball team goes to Smithtown West at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs football team hosts Smithtown East on Saturday at 2 p.m. North Babylon is 3-2 after a big win over Bay Shore.

As for the Falcons, the Deer Park boys soccer team heads up Deer Park Avenue to take on Half Hollow Hills West on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Deer Park varsity football team plays Saturday at home against Amityville. That game gets started at 1:30 p.m., as the Falcons try to get back to winning after a tough loss this week. They're still 3-2 on the year.
