Improvements Coming To Geiger Lake Park

Work to construct basketball courts, playground and water park now underway.

Drive past Geiger Lake Park and you will see heavy construction equipment at work.

The park, located in the western part of Deer Park, will soon be refurbished with the addition of basketball courts, a playground, water park and a botanical garden, according to a recent Newsday report.

Babylon Town officials recently approved $7 million in construction work and they hope to have the water park ready for use by July 4.

Newsday reported that the total cost of the project could reach $11 million. To cover the cost, the town has approved a $5 million bond, received a Community Development Block Grant loan of $4.1 million and is also using an additional $1.3 million in grants.

The work now on-going at Geiger Lark Park is the latest effort by Babylon officials to improve town parks and playgrounds.

This past week, they were receiving a $20,000 renovation grant from Sprite and the Coca-Cola Company. The money will be used to upgrade basketball courts at Phelps Lane Park in North Babylon. Funding will be used for repairs on court surfaces, repainting and installing safety padding around existing lights.
