Local Memorial Day Parades Set

Veterans and local community groups will gather in North Babylon and Deer Park to remember those who served the U.S.

Memorial Day weekend is upon us and with the long weekend that marks the unofficial start of summer comes barbecues, family gatherings and local parades.

In North Babylon, the hamlet’s annual Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday at Fireman’s Triangle at the corner of Commack Road and Deer Park Ave. It will proceed south to Phelps Lane and into Phelps Lane Park.

Local veteran groups, various local organizations, marching bands from North Babylon High School and other schools and the North Babylon Fire Department will be the featured attractions.

Also, remember the skies above the south shore will be nosier than normal this weekend as the annual takes places Saturday and Sunday. Various vintage planes and current-day fighter jets are flying in and out of Republic Airport in Farmingdale and participating in the show are stationed at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.
