N. Babylon Superintendent Thanks Community For Budget Support

Letter from school's chief cites teamwork in getting 2012-13 spending plan approved.

With North Babylon School District residents having overwhelmingly approved the 2012-13 school budget, the superintendent thanked the community for its support despite the spending plan being above the tax levy cap.

“It is always gratifying to be able to acknowledge community support for a budget that is passed,” Patricia Godek, superintendent, wrote in a letter that appeared on the school district website. “But in light of the difficulties we faced this past year, the passing of the budget takes on even greater significance.”

This past Tuesday, residents approved the $107.1 million budget 1,569-883, or 64 percent of the vote. Since the budget was over the tax levy cap, a 60 percent vote was needed for approval.

In her letter, Godek expressed her thanks to a community she said supports continuing quality education for local children and showed that support by working hard to get the proposed budget approved.

“Working together to pass the budget, thereby maintaining programs and services essential for our children’s continued success, was fundamental to the success of our efforts,” she said.

Godek noted that following approval of the 2011-12 school budget a year ago, she quoted Henry Ford, “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is a success.”

She wrote, “North Babylon has done just that; we came together for a purpose, we made progress and in the end by working together we have succeeded.”
