Tuesday's Events: What's Happening Locally
Save some money today by taking a defensive driving class, or by learning to knit your own sweaters.

Tuesday, May 8, brings with it a host of local events happening in Deer Park and North Babylon.
Before we get to our suggestions of what to do today, local Knicks fans recall that the team on this day 42 years ago defeated the Los Angeles Lakers to win the NBA title. Now, New York fans are just hoping for a victory over the Miami Heat tomorrow to keep its current series alive.
Back in our neighborhoods, those looking to save a little cash should head to the to take a defensive driving course. The two-night class (tonight and Thursday night) will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Payment of $25 is due at time of registration. The class may reduce insurance costs and/or points on one’s license.

At the , the Knitting Club will meet at 7 p.m. Led by Roberta, the club welcomes all beginning to advanced knitters. Newcomers are asked to bring one ball of smooth, middle-weight yarn and a pair of #8 knitting needles.
The Five Towns College Jazz Orchestra and Swing Band will be performing “An Evening of Jazz” beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. The band will be playing a tribute to Glenn Miller. Tickets are $10.

Local high school sports action today includes the Deer Park boys varsity track team at home vs. Comsewogue, the North Babylon varsity softball team at Hauppauge, the North Babylon boys varsity lacrosse team at Smithtown West and the North Babylon varsity baseball team at West Babylon. All games start at 4 p.m. with the exception of the boys lacrosse game, which starts at 5 p.m.
