Weekend Planner: Events Happening Locally

It’s Friday! Another week has flown by and hopefully some warm spring weather will be paying a visit to Deer Park and North Babylon.

To get you ready for the weekend, Patch has put together a list of events happening in our two communities as well as a few that are close by. For a full list, check out our events listing.

On Friday, the is offering a free showing of “Iron Lady” at 1 p.m. Starring Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, the film offers an intimate portrait of the first and only female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The movie is rated PG-13.

On Saturday, the North Babylon High School PTSA Craft Fair & Plant Sale will be held at the high school beginning at 9 a.m.

In Deer Park, a Water Safety Awareness Day with Saf-T-Swim will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 854 Long Island Ave. There will be informative presentations from local police and fire departments, US Coast Guard, Red Cross, and Saf-T-Swim staff, including a special message from Saf-T-Swim President Jim Hazen. For more information please e-mail jessicar@­saf-­t-­swim.­com.

Babylon Town will hold its annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday at Town Hall in Lindenhurst beginning on 11 a.m. The day will include rides, crafts, vendors, free giveaways, environmental programs and information.

Also on Saturday, the is offering a free showing of “Charlotte’s Web” at 2:30 p.m. The movie is rated G and is suggested for children ages three-and-a-half and up. Adults must remain with children under the age of 11.

On Sunday, the 2012 Walk MS and Pooch Parade will be held throughout the day at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon. The event raises awareness and critical funds while working for a cure of MS. For more information call Natale at 631-864-8337, ext. 53225.
