Weekend Planner: Events Happening Locally

Patch presents a list of some things to do to end the week and spend some quality time with the family.

The weekend is upon us and there are numerous events happening in and around the Deer Park and North Babylon communities.

With Friday’s forecast calling for a blustery day, perhaps a free movie would fit the bill for some. At the “We Bought A Zoo” starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson will be shown at 1 p.m. Those looking for a double-feature can head to the for a showing of “Super 8.” The movie is about a group of friends who witness a train crash during the summer of 1979 and investigate subsequent unexplained events in their small town.

For those willing to hop in the car and drive west to Lindenhurst, the Babylon Citizen Council on the Arts (BaCCA) is presenting a concert with on Friday. The performance at the BaCCA Arts Center, 149 N. Wellwood Ave. begins at 8 p.m.  Light refreshments will be available.

Don’t worry if you see Pirates, Cubs and Angels walking the streets of Deer Park on Saturday. The hamlet’s will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m. It starts at John F. Kennedy Intermediate School on Lake Ave. and will make its way up Deer Park Ave. to Old Country Rd. and then to Pine Acres Park.

On Saturday and Sunday, the will present several performances of “The Wizard of OZ.” Performances Saturday are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. while the curtain will rise at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10.
